Welcome to my new website I am glad you are visiting and reading the blog page. I will have weekly Blogs on different subjects that are important. Note that the poll question will reflect what my blog is about. If you did not see the poll qustion for this week it is on tails should your new puppy have a tail or should it be docked? For starter you should have the background information on why certain breed have tails or don't have them. The Labrador Retriever always has had a tail it is a staight tail called a Stag tail. The Labrador was developed through breeding to have a staight tail to be used as a rutter in the water to help them move swiftly through the water to retieve the birds from the water when hunting they are a hunting breed. The poodle was also bred to be hunters they are pointers and have a docked three-forth length tail. Poodles were developed to be gun dogs that point out the prey for the hunter, but they do not have a naturally straight tail they have a curly tail or a Gay tail unless docked the poodle would not be able to perform it's job. The poodle comes in many sizes standard, miniature, Moyen(French for medium) and toy. The Australian Shepherd was developed to be a herding breed. The Aussie has a short docked tail. The Aussies tails were docked so that they would be able to herd the livestock in a very sleek fast manner with alot of eye contact. The Aussies movement when herding needed to be very uninterupted by anything like a tail, also I have heard many other reasons the aussie tail was docked, it would get stepped on by livestock or even that the tail would drive the aussie crazy to where they would chew at it themselves. I must say all of the reasons for the tails to be on and off really seem necessary for these breeds uses in those days, but now times have changes dogs are in our home for a different kind of job, they are to comfort our lives and be family members that we can share our lives with. So now we are able to choose differently for our pets share your thoughts and vote. |
